Film screening: “Singing’ in the Rain” with introduction by Judith Keilbach

On the 14th of October, Rialto VU Griffioen will host a special screening of Singin’ in the Rain as part of the Fiction & Science series. Dr. Judith Keilbach will provide an introduction to offer an eco-materialist reading of this classic musical film.

Singin’ in the Rain is widely considered one of the greatest musical films of all time. Set in Hollywood during the late 1920s, it tells the story of the film industry’s transition from silent cinema to sound. By reflecting on the processes of filmmaking, Singin’ in the Rain also reveals the industry’s relationship with the natural world. This perspective will be further examined in a film introduction that offers an eco-materialist reading of its most iconic scenes.
